Overview
General
The International is the focal point of the year for Dota 2 tournaments that serves as the world championship for the sport. Hosted by Valve Corporation in Seattle's Key Arena, 10,000 fans will witness the crowning of the best team in the world. With the massive success of the Compendium, more than 10 million USD are on the line with almost 5 million going to the winners of the event. The event spans across 15 days, divided into the 7 day long playoffs, followed by the 4 day main event after a 4 day break. With 11 teams invited, 4 teams qualifying, and 4 more teams still vying for the final slot of the tournament, The International will provide an enormous amount of games between all the best teams in the world and determine the best Dota 2 team of 2014.

Format
The main part of the event is divided into 2 parts: Playoffs, Main Event
The Playoffs are further divided into 3 phases: Play-in, Round-Robin, Bracket
- Playoffs Phase One (Play-In Tournament): July 8th
The 4 Wildcard teams play against each other in a BO3 single-elimination bracket. The winner gets the last spot in the event.
Solo Championship - Playoffs Phase Two (Round Robin): July 9th - 12th
The 16 teams all play against each other once across 4 days. The bottom placing 6 teams are eliminated from the tournament, the top 2 move to Upper Bracket of the Main Event without participating in the bracket stage of the playoffs.- Playoffs Phase Two - Day 1: July 9th

- Playoffs Phase Two - Day 3: July 11th
- Playoffs Phase Two - Day 4: July 12th
Potential tiebreakers are resolved on Day 4.
- Playoffs Phase Three (Bracket): July 13th / 14th
The remaining 8 teams play in a BO3 single-elimination bracket. 2 more teams are eliminated this way, and 2 more enter the Upper Bracket of the Main Event. The remaining 4 teams enter the Lower Bracket of the Main Event. The teams are placed in the bracket based on their placement in the Round-Robin group stage. This way, only the teams that lose their match between 7th and 10th place as well as 8th and 9th place can be eliminated and the remainder of the teams in the bracket play only for placements in the bracket of the Main Event.- Playoffs Phase Three - Day 1: July 13th

Bracket containing the 4th, 5th, 8th and 9th placing team from the Round-Robin phase.

- Main Event: July 18th - 21st
The 8 teams that have reached the Main Event play in a BO3 double-elimination bracket. The 4 slots in the upper bracket are attained through 2 highest placements in the Round-Robin phase of the Playoffs as well as first placements in the brackets in the Phase 3 of the Playoffs. The Grand Finals are BO5.- Main Event - Day 1 (Upper Bracket): July 18th
- Main Event - Day 2 (Lower Bracket): July 19th
All-Star Match - Main Event - Day 3 (Lower Bracket): July 20th
- Main Event - Day 4 (Grand Finals): July 21th
